Western & Denim

Hey ladies and gents! ... I just realized how totally awkward my intros sound, I need to come up with some new material man. Sheesh.

Anyways, today I felt like talking about two things in relation to gal style: the current Western trend and denim (jeans, etc). So let's start with Western trends!

So. The Western trend (I believe) started with LIZ LISA, some time last year? I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but regardless, it's a relatively new look in Gal culture. It comprises of cowboy hats (obviously), loose cotton tops, denim shirts, cotton lace detailing, florals, ruffles, lots of creamy brown leathers, short fluffy skirts and cowboy boots.

When done right, it looks so adorable! I really like this look. I don't know if I personally would get to into it because, well, cowboy hats aren't really my thing. But I think it's a great look for the spring and summer seasons! It's really light and fresh, and totally cute. The brand that has been pumping out the most Western looks is LIZ LISA (of course!) There are a few other brand in 109 that have some Western styles, but LIZ LISA is DEFINITELY the most prominent. Here are a few of the looks I like best from LL.

Totally love this denim skirt. I like the floral stitching on the hem, and the side lacing is cute too.

Florals and loose materials are a good look in the Western style. Cute and comfortable!

Denim jackets are perfect, because they look Western and cute!

Fluffy skirts like this one when paired with a longer button up shirt and a waist belt look super cute!

Fringe is another part of the Western trend that is really popular! Bags, boots, you name it, is has fringe.

However, there IS a point where you can take the Western motif a little too far. Like this LL one piece which is just... ugh...

I'm sorry LL, but that's just a little too saloon girl for me. Yeah. No. Sheesh. Maybe for a cowgirl costume. I do like the lacing on the front, but that should be applied to other items of clothing. Like the previously mentioned denim skirt! That is an example of nice corset detailing.

Let's move now from the Western trend to something that is an interesting topic with me. The lack of denim in gal style. I'm not saying there is NO denim. I'm just saying there isn't enough. And I don't mean denim shirts, dresses, etc. I'm talking jeans. As in pants. As in long.

Usually a Westerners connotation of gal style is short(ish) skirts + heels. Which is not (or should not be) the case. Although skirts and shorts are really popular, and in fact a staple in most gals wardrobes, I think there should be more integration of jeans. Examples!

Those are all really good examples of denim in gal style! I just wish more people in the Western communities would wear denim. The thing is, I guess, that many peoples looks are not gal enough to make denim look... well, gal? I suppose that might be the case.

Come on, gals, bring on the denim!
